β€œKatrina is a magnetic connector between pop culture, politics, and lifestyle.”

Leader. Mother. Nurse. Businesswoman. Pure Motivation. - just a few of the many jackets Katrina Robinson wears in life - a life rich in experiences, responsibility, and vision. From depending on public assistance as a young single mom to becoming a public official, Katrina has experienced life from several vantage points leading to a rich, relatable story for people from all walks of life. The confluence of many situations and opportunities have shaped Katrina to be a strong and experienced knowledge bank on entrepreneurship, politics, healthcare, race relations, and America’s justice system.

Frustrated by systemic issues of inequality in postsecondary educational opportunities, workforce development, and healthcare in her hometown of Memphis, Katrina founded The Healthcare Institute (THI) in 2015. THI is Tennessee’s only Black owned and only woman owned licensed nursing school.  Its mission is to provide accessible educational opportunities in underserved areas, specifically for adult students seeking careers in nursing and allied health.
Motivated by her extensive involvement in community activism and civic engagement, Katrina decided to further her impact. In 2018, she courageously campaigned for public office and successfully unseated a 12-year incumbent, winning by a decisive 3:1 margin. Once elected to the Tennessee State Senate, she quickly rose to leadership roles, serving on the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Tennessee Advisory Commission for Intergovernmental Relations. In addition, she became an executive committee member of the National Black Caucus and the Secretary of the Tennessee Black Caucus. In recognition of her potential, she was honored as the Top Emerging Leader of the Year in 2019. Her legislative victories set an unprecedented bar for new lawmakers. Upon the conclusion of her senate tenure, Katrina launched her career as a consultant - offering highly sought after services to political campaigns, policy organizations, small businesses, celebrity brands, and more.

Katrina has been seen on MSNBC, Fox Soul, and Black News Channel. She is currently a regular contributor on KBLA Talk 1580 (Los Angeles). Her opinion pieces have been featured in Essence magazine, and multiple news publications. Audiences are drawn to her ability to bridge political and social issues with pop culture, making things relevant and relatable to the every day person. Katrina’s debut book, a raw and inspiring biography, is set to be published Spring 2023. She has also taken on the role of executive producer of a documentary series, entitled BlackNailed: United States vs. Black Political Power.

Katrina’s honors include 2020 People’s Choice award, 2019 Executive of the Year Memphis Business Journal nominee, 2018 Barack Obama Award for Woman of the Year, 2017 Business Journal Top 40 Under 40, 2017 Memphis Business Journal Super Women in Business Executive Profile, 2016 Greater Memphis Chamber Top Young Memphian, and 2016 the New Tri-State Defender Woman of Excellence.

Katrina is the proud mother of Jaden and Amaya, both nationally recognized entrepreneurs, once named Black Enterprise Magazine’s Teen Entrepreneurs of the Year.

As Seen On

AUTHOR

Over the course of five years , Katrina Robinson rode a roller coaster of a life.  Going from a struggling single mom to a successful entrepreneur is no easy feat for most. Top that with founding a college and medspa, winning over $2M in funding from the government, a very public marriage, an even more public divorce, and running for and winning a prestigious political office. Do it all before the age of 40, and all while your sister is subject of a high profile murder case.

Katrina's life has been wrought with many challenges that prepared her as both a fighter and a force of resilience and determination.  The fight in her was put on display for the world to see when, in 2020, she faced a 48 count federal indictment alleging she had embezzled over $600,000 in federal grant funds awarded to her own business - the ONLY black owned nursing school in the state.

Onlookers would watch her take blow after blow heading to the trial of the decade, all while staying prim and poised for them to see on every media channel across the world. The accusations garnered so much attention that the Trump campaign was tweeting about it and it could be read about in publications across the world. While she lost so much during that time, even subsequently becoming the first person expelled from the senate due to the charges - the one thing she never lost was HERSELF. After prevailing in the case that rocked her life, Katrina made it her mission to influence engagement and policy reform in the interest of protecting Black political power. The world can paint a dark picture of someone who has braved such storms. The truth is that any person who can survive it all has a light that has to be shone.
